1. What is impulse energy and why is it important?
Impulse energy represents the energy available from the generator during an impulse discharge. For the same rated voltage, a generator with insufficient energy may not provide the required test performance for certain large or highly capacitive test objects. Therefore, rated voltage and impulse energy should be considered together when selecting an impulse voltage generator.
2. Can the SXCY be used for transformer impulse testing?
Yes. The SXCY Series can be configured for transformer lightning impulse and switching impulse testing, depending on the transformer's voltage class and applicable test requirements. Impulse testing can be used to evaluate transformer insulation against transient overvoltages and verify the dielectric strength of the winding insulation system. For transformer applications, the generator configuration should be selected according to the transformer's rated voltage, insulation level, test voltage, capacitance, and applicable standard.
